EEOC Issues Guidance on Family Responsibility Discrimination
The EEOC has published new guidance on how federal equal employment laws apply to individuals who must balance work and family.  The guidance offers examples of when discrimination of a parent or caregiver might give rise to a claim of disparate treatment under either Title VII or the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).  The EEOC notes that bias against employees with care-giving responsibilities has increased as more women have entered the workforce and as more employees must care for elderly parents.
